ABOUT THE FOUNDATION

The SMA Healthcare Foundation is a single-purpose foundation existing to support SMA Healthcare.
We are proud to be the bridge between passionate donors and the impactful care SMA Healthcare delivers every day across our communities.

MISSION

Our mission is to foster relationships to increase community awareness and support for services provided by SMA Healthcare.

VISION

We envision a world where mental wellness is prioritized, stigma is erased, and no one faces life’s challenges alone. A future where every individual has access to compassionate, whole-person behavioral healthcare, empowering lives, strengthening families, and building healthier communities.

VALUES

We’re committed to responsible stewardship, whole-person wellness, and lasting impact. Every dollar we receive goes directly to programs that support mental health and recovery. We prioritize our donors — helping them meet their goals while building healthier communities together.

A Message From the Chairman of the Board

It truly is an honor to serve as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the SMA Healthcare Foundation.

I’m only able to step into this role because of the many caring, committed people who came before me, our board members, volunteers, and the incredible employees who have poured their hearts into this Foundation since it began in 1997. Their passion is what makes this work possible.

As we move forward, I’m excited to partner with all of you to continue supporting SMA Healthcare and the people in our community who rely on its services. The impact we make together is real, and I’m grateful to be a part of it.

If you’re reading this, I hope you’ll consider getting involved, whether that means volunteering, giving, or simply spreading the word. Every bit of support helps strengthen the important work SMA Healthcare does every day.

SMA Foundation History

The SMA Healthcare Foundation was founded in 1997 by James Foster at the request of Reverend Hal Marchman and Dr. Ernest Cantley.

The Foundation was initially established to support Stewart-Marchman Center and addiction services in Flagler and Volusia Counties. In 2008, Stewart-Marchman Center merged with ACT Corporation and became Stewart-Marchman-Act Behavioral Healthcare. In 2018, Stewart-Marchman-Act Behavioral Healthcare rebranded to SMA Healthcare, and the Foundation became formally known as the SMA Healthcare Foundation.

With the 2008 merger, the Foundation expanded its support to include mental health services. As SMA Healthcare grew, so did the Foundation, and today it supports addiction and mental health services in Citrus Flagler, Marion, Putnam, St. Johns, and Volusia Counties.
